aus open and australia day

A great day was had by all at the Monday January 26 public holiday event fuelled by Aus Open Grand-Slam fever.

More than 50 members took part in social tennis and some fun activities. If it’s good enough for the Aussie Open, it’s good enough for CBTC, so we launched into our inaugural “1 point slam” (minus the $1 mill prize money!)    Thirty members entered and were randomly drawn against each other to play a one-point only knockout rally, with winners advancing. After many good fun rounds, the last man standing were Duncan Hyde, our very first  ‘I Point Slam’ champion.

After all that excitement, the next activity was the Racquet Throwing competition. Our winner was Craig Tunnell, who with steely determination may finally have found a good use for his racquet! Only joking, awesome throw Craig.

A huge thanks to Captain of the Day Bruce Scheffers who arranged and ran both our fun activities, whilst also doing a stellar job managing the social sets with more than 50 members looking to play. Thank you Bruce.

The Social Committee and the Scheffers provided some youbeaut Aussie tucker during the day - lamingtons, iced vo-vo’s, party pies, watermelon and vegemite and hundreds & thousand sandwiches and thanks as always to our master chef Chris Contro who prepared a fantastic BBQ to finish a top day.
