Trivia night 2026

What is the world’s northernmost capital city? What’s the longest running Broadway musical of all time? What street is Warriewood Cinemas in? What year was the first iPhone released? These were some of the mind-boggling questions posed to members at this year’s Trivia Night!

As always, it was a hugely entertaining evening largely due to our fabulous Quizmaster & raconteur Roly who managed to somehow keep order amongst the rabble whilst getting through eight rounds each of 10 questions.  This year’s subjects were Pot Luck, Entertainment, Around the World, Sport, Colors,  Who Am I?, the Nautical Round and Northern Beaches plus table rounds of song lyrics, advertising slogans and famous people photos.

After the 100 questions, the suspense couldn’t have been higher with two teams tied at 67 points -  ‘Helen’s Angels’ (Helen Hunt & Robert, Andrea Park & Kevin, David Shepherdson, Frank Strevens, Malcolm & Susan Wallace)  and ‘Sinners’ (Duncan & Lyndee Hyde, Donna & Irving Underwood, Kathryn & John Smidmore, Jan & Brian Milton, Mark Audet).

Two tie-break questions later they were still tied so the final tie-breaker became a “closest to the pin’ question – “In what year was Qantas established?”  It was tight but just like Jannik at Wimbledon, ‘Sinners’ came through with the closest year to the correct answer of 1920.   Congratulations ‘Sinners’.

In between all that excitement, we dined on Fernando’s yummy roast chickens with accompanying veg & salad, followed by spectacular cheesecakes, berries & cream and some Favourites choccies for the final sugar hit to bring us home.

A huge thanks to Chrissie & Angie for their organisation of the night, to our Quizmaster Roly and to masterchef Chris for the veggies & salad.  It really was a fabulous night.

In case anyone’s wondering, the answers to the above questions were Reykjavik (Iceland), Phantom of the Opera, Vuko Place and 2007.
