2025 CBTC Junior Club Championships

The weekend of 21 & 22 June saw the 4th straight year of the Junior Championships held at Careel Bay. The weather was perfect and the tennis was even better with a high standard of tennis on display.

Doubles:

Just 6 eager hitters participated, but all were of a strong calibre.

Names were drawn from a hat and three strong, relatively equal teams were created as follows:

  1. Taylor Kind with Ines Stockbuerger

  2. Aalto Koolloos with Jai Mortimer

  3. Max Cannon with Indi Kretchmer

A round robin of a full (7 point tiebreaker) set format was held which set up a final with Max + Indi taking the title after defeating Aalto + Jai 6-3 in a high-calibre match.

Singles:

Boys + Girls singles events were run concurrently on the Sunday with 5 girls and 6 boys contesting their respective titles. Two round robins of fast-four sets were run with the two top performers in each event meeting in a full 7 point tie-breaker format set.

Aalto Koolloos met Taylor Kind in the boys final and it was Taylor who stepped up and played solid tennis to clinch the title in a lop-sided affair 6-1. Indi Kretchmer, perhaps buoyed by her success on the Saturday, turned up in the girls final to out-class Ines Stockbuerger, also 6-1. The net outcome was 4 new names on our honour boards hopefully increasing their drive to continue their own legacies.

Harper Conwell was awarded the CBTC Spirit of Tennis Award for her ongoing positive energy both on and off the court and irrespective of wins or losses. Her maturity and dedication to our game will see her go far and I am convinced she will win this event in the not too distant future.

14 year old Gil Hardy, a formidable hitter in his own right chose to sit the event out and instead was an amazing assistant including keeping score in all finals from the umpires chair on court. I’d like to call out his efforts with a formal thank you and very much look forward to seeing him on the court again soon.

Michelle Lusty was amazing as ever helping to organise the snacks for the event as well as assist across both days when things got hectic.

Thank you for your energy and advice through the events. Chris Contro did not hesitate to fire up the bbq on the Sunday for the hitters, family and members who showed up to watch the matches and deserves the recognition for his effort –thank you Chris.

Angie Webster + Helen Hunt also both contributed across both days as did many of the parents of the players and their assistance is also greatly appreciated. Only modest in size, the event show-cased the incredible club spirit we have fostered at Careel Bay, and it’s something we should all genuinely be proud of.
