2026 Open club championships

After a hard-fought 69 matches, our 2026 Open Club Champions have been decided.

Last weekend (March 21/22) saw two days of finals – Saturday’s games combined with our court-naming ceremony honouring founding members and past Committee members, while Sunday’s games ended with the traditional Open BBQ.  We were blessed with two days of great weather and large numbers of members turned out to enthusiastically cheer on the competitors.

Saturday kicked off with the Ladies Doubles Final, with new pairing Rachel Wilson & Deborah Johnston defeating two-time defending champs Jane Frost & Rowena Dubberley 6-3, 6-2. The Men’s Doubles final followed with Adrian Venturi & Stefano Manuelli notching up their fourth Open title with some masterful net play to defeat Will Swanton & Brett Nicholson 6-1, 6-1.

Sunday saw the Men’s Singles title with two of our best younger players battling it out across three high-quality sets.  In the end defending champion Luke Hyde defeated Jay Comport 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 in a terrific match.  The Ladies Singles saw a repeat of the 2025 final with defending champ Rachel Wilson playing very solid tennis to defeat Amy Laird 6-1, 6-1. The weekend concluded with the Mixed Doubles final, another tight tussle.  Following his Singles match, Luke teamed up with mother Lyndee to take out their fourth Open title in the past six year defeating Club President Steve Koolloos & Vice President Michelle Lusty 6-4, 7-5.

After all that we were in need of sustenance and our CBTC Masterchef extraordinaire Chris Contro served up another delicious feast with toasted focaccia steak sandwiches which were sublime!  Thank you Chris.

A huge thanks to Club Captain Andrej Budja for all his hard work organising the games across the past six weekends.  The Open Championships are one of the highlights of the Club Calendar and once again proved to be a great opportunity to play and watch some terrific tennis, while enjoying fun social times with fellow members.

Congratulations to all our 2026 champions!
